Monterey Bay Aquarium Live Cams

Watch jellyfish, sea otters, sharks, and penguins streaming live from California

The Monterey Bay Aquarium is one of the most celebrated aquariums in the world, home to over 35,000 animals representing more than 200 species. Opened in 1984 on the site of a former Cannery Row sardine factory, it pioneered the display of living kelp forests, ocean sunfish, and even great white sharks — feats no other aquarium had achieved.

The aquarium's free live webcams bring the magic of the deep ocean directly to your screen. Whether you want to watch moon jellyfish pulsing in hypnotic rhythm or sea otters grooming and playing, there is always something mesmerizing happening on these streams.

Fascinating Facts

  1. Opened in 1984 on the site of the former Hovden Cannery, the last operating cannery on Cannery Row made famous by John Steinbeck
  2. Over 35,000 animals and more than 200 species displayed in exhibits designed to replicate Monterey Bay's natural habitats
  3. Pioneered living kelp forest displays — the first aquarium to successfully grow giant kelp indoors using a powerful wave machine
  4. Displayed great white sharks — the first and only aquarium to keep juvenile great whites on exhibit, though the practice was discontinued
  5. Built on Cannery Row — the original cannery smokestack and boilers are preserved inside the aquarium as historical artifacts

💡 Pro Tip

The jellyfish cam is incredible as a background ambient stream while working or studying. Set it to full screen on a second monitor or TV for a living art installation. Feeding times on the otter cam (usually around 10:30 AM and 1:30 PM Pacific) are especially entertaining to catch.
